Counting Your Dog's Calories is very important, especially if your pooch is overweight. It can get quite confusing sometimes though, but there is a way.

*Just take your dog's weight in kilograms, there is a chart below for some help, multiply it by 30, and add 70 to it. That will equal to the daily caloric intake that will maintain your dog's current weight.

*Now If your pup needs to shed a few pounds, just calculate 70% of that total and feed your dog ONLY that many calories a day. To help you calculate this, on the back of the dog food bags, they tell you how many calories are in each cup of the food.
After your pup looses the necessary pounds, use the total to maintain the desired current weight.
*Example: My Molly weighs 20 pounds, so her weight in kilograms is 9.07 so multiplyed by 30 would make it 272.1 plus 70=342.1 or just 342 to round it up. Thats how many calories she'd eat a day to maintain her weight. Now to loose weight, just multiply 70% or .70 to the 342 making it 239.47 or to round it up, 240. So that's how you'd do it!
Now just because you have to cut back on calories doesn't mean you have to cut back on their meals. On the back of the dog food bags it tells you how much your dog should be eating of it by their weight, for instance Molly's food, Pro Plan Sensitive skin and stomach says for 13-20 pounds, feed 1cup (112g) to
1
1/2  cups (168g) of food. So that would leave 128-72 calories left that would be the treats, now you must remember, treats are food too, they are not to be fed as a meal but they do have to do with your pooch's tummy so you need to watch the treats and cut back on those instead of food if neccesary. Just measure and be plan ahead on your dog's meals and as soon as they are at the weight you desire (where you can feel their ribs but not too easily) then you can go back to the total before you calculated 70% for weight watching.
Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been proved, he will receive the crown of life which the LORD has promised to those who love Him. Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.
