Dachsie's Are definantly different. Once you get a Dachshund your life will NEVER be the same! They are like toddlers, wanting all of your attention, wanting to play all the time, and always wanting to............E-A-T! They LOVE food, every trainer knows that you must find that drive in each dog and every Dachsie owner knows what a Doxie's drive is, all you have to do is find thier favorite treat, Molly's is Carrots, so I definantly recommend giving them a shot. But be sure to chop it up into Dachsie-Bite size bits so they won't choke. After you find thier favorite treat, (try and pick a less fattening treat for training) they can learn ANYTHING! I am teaching Molly a new trick called "In and Out" If you have a Doxie or any kind of dog, why don't you join in the fun. Molly loves to jump but to protect her precious back, I've decided to do a less harmful trick, in the long run, with a hool-a-hoop. Simply lay down a hool-a-hoop (one that your dog can stand in and lay down in and fit just right) and have a hand-ful of treats. Ask your dog to sit by you, then say, 'In the hoop' while guiding them into the hoop then say 'Sit in the hoop' and reward. Next tell them
'out of the hoop' while guiding them out of the hoop and say 'Sit out of the hoop' and reward. Keep going back and forth occasionally switching the pattern and keep this up every day, you can use different commands such as down, or sit pretty but make sure your dog knows the tricks very well before you ask them in the "In and Out" game.
And that's simply it! Oh, and the hoop doesn't have to be nothing fancy, just a cheap one for training because your pup might try to nibble at it (I know Molly did!) or accidentaly scratch it. But it'll look very impressive during a "show" getting a fancy one that matches your pup!
