Personality

Ah, that Dachshund Personality, you'll never truly know it until you live with one. A common misconception about this breed is that they are independent and would rather be in a room by themselves chewing a toy than with you. That is totally untrue. First, Dachshunds are hounds and hounds MUST be together in a pack at all times, they always travel in packs. Now don't get me wrong, they DO THINK independently meaning when you say sit and they want to play they will start playing.
Dachshunds are NOT for everybody though. When it comes to picking a breed, you must consider personality, both yours and the dog's. Dachshunds are not for people with small children, they have a very sensitive back and do not tolerate rough handling well, and they will defend themselves, Dachshunds may be short but even a mini's bite is not short on pain. They are also not for anyone who want a jogging buddy or for "couch potatoes". You must have a sense of humor and be able to laugh at mistakes, as these dogs are comedians, even when they're not trying. Living with one requires tons of patience, they are big babies and don't take correction lightly, they'll always throw them sad eyes at you. You must also have as strong a will as they do, they were bred to hunt badgers, fiesty little vicious animals and they were made to act, relitively the same way, they have lots of spunk and energy that must be let out everyday. They are also BIG lovable sweethearts who DO love to cuddle..when they have burnt off all that Doxie energy!
